Bali Needs a Natural Gas Depot

Bali Needs Natural Gas Port to Reduce Fuel Costs for Island Power Plants.

(7/10/2010) The National Electrical Board (PLN) has recommended to Bali's governor that a port for the delivery of natural gas be built to supply fuel for 3 power generating plants in Pemaron, Gilimanuk and Pesanggaran now dependent on diesel fuel.

As reported by beritabali.com, PLN's general manager for distribution. Dadan Kurnia Dipoera says that current poor supplies of liquefied gas compels the three Bali-based power generating plants to operate with diesel fuels.

Dipoera reports that 300 MW of the 553 MW coming from the three Bali power stations is derived from costly diesel fuel. PLN spends Rp. 6 trillion (US$ 652 million) each year for diesel fuels, a cost which could be reduced by 50% if liquefied gas is used to run power plants.
