Electricity Rates Increase 18%

Cost of Electricity Increased in Bali and Indonesia on July 1, 2010.

(7/10/2010) The Indonesian government has increased the basic electrical tariff by 10%, effective July 1, 2010. The increase in energy costs affects only consumers with 900 kwh connections or higher.

Bisnis.com reports that in accordance with a ministerial decree dated June 30, 2010, the following levels if rate increases apply:

Customers receiving between 450 VA and 900 VA will not experience an increase in rates. This category covers 33.2 million of the 40.1 customers served by the State Electrical Board (PLN).

Customers (R1) using 1,300 VA will pay Rp. 790 (US$0.08.5) per kwh.

Customers (R2) using 3,500 VA to 5,500 VA will pay Rp. 890 (US$0.09.6) per kwh.

For those PLN customers experiencing rate increases, the average hike will average:

10% for social organizations.

18% for households.

16% for businesses.

Between 6 12 % for industries.

Between 15-18% for government buildings.

Between 9-20% for special category customers (e.g. railways, apartments)
