Bali's Vehicle and Licensing Department to Go On Line

Governor Wants Licensing and Vehicle Registration as Part of a Larger E-Government Plan for Bali.

(7/26/2010) In order to optimize road tax revenues and enhance vehicle security, the provincial government of Bali plans to soon introduce an on-line vehicle and license registration system to replace the current system which, by all accounts, is plagued by middlemen and non-official fees.

Kompas.com reports that the new e-Samsat system is targeted to end the presence of middle-men while providing a safe and efficient service to the public. Explaining the move, Governor Pastika said, "We want to give the best service to the public with zero fixers (middlemen) in the Samsat online system."

The governor added that the e-Samsat system is a part of Bali's e-government program to adopt technology as a means of improving service to the public.

While no firm date has been set for the introduction of the E-Samsat system, the governor has declared "it must be in operation this year."
