As Always, Bali Remains Safe

Dr. Pitana Writes to All Diplomatic Missions on Current Security Situation.

(4/8/2002) Dr. I Gde Pitana, M. Sc., the Chief of Tourism for the Province of Bali has written a letter to all Indonesian Embassies abroad and foreign diplomatic consul in Bali, clarify the security situation in Bali in the wake of heightened tensions in the Middle East and asking their assistance in spreading the news that Bali remain safe for foreign visitors.

In a letter dated April 3, Dr. Pitana underlined that despite the expanded military moves by Israel against the Palestinians, Bali remains perfectly safe for visits by foreign tourists; that the people of Bali have consistently rejected any actions that have the potential to disrupt tourism; and coordination with local police agencies have been undertaken to ensure that Bali's security situation remains safe.

The tourism Chief's letter of comfort and assurance was written as a preventative step in anticipation of negative news portrayals of Bali's situation in the wake of increased tensions in the Middle East.

In related comments, Mr. I Gusti Bagus Yudhara, MBA, the Chairman of the Indonesian Association of Travel Agents (ASITA) stated that there is no indication of booking cancellations in Bali that can be tied to the Israel actions against the Palestinians. (Bali Post)
