The Eye Over Your Shoulder

Bali Seeks to Improve Security by Installing Additional 1,000 Surveillance Cameras.

(8/23/2010) Bali is preparing to dramatically enhance its closed-circuit surveillance system with the installation of another 1,000 cameras at locations across the island.

Quoting the island's chief of the provincial office for National Politics and Public Protection, Nyoman Silanawa, printed in The Jakarta Globe, the new cameras will be installed across the island at a costs of US$2.4 million.

Providing island-wide surveillance capabilities, the camera will provide pictures to the Disaster Prevention Operations Control Center in Bali's capital of Denpasar.

Among the locations slated for live picture feeds are the port of Gilimanuk in west Bali, the port of Padang Bai in east Bali, the port of Benoa and the Ngurah Rai International airport.

Plans are also afoot for the establishment of 33 separate crisis centers with the capabilities to fight fires, provide police support and health care.
