US$9.55 Million Needed to Save Bali's Forests

5 Years and US$9.55 Million Required to Save Bali's Threatened Forests and Jungle Areas.

(9/6/2010) Bali needs Rp. 86 billion (US$9.55 million) to replant and rehabilitate forested areas of the island.

These funds, according to Beritabali.com, would be employed to salvage 25,000 hectares of land during a 5 year restorative program.

The head of the forestry service for the province of Bali, Anak Agung Bhuana, said that with 25,000 hectares of jungle and forest lands now deemed in a critical state, there is a need for 5,000 hectares of these areas to be restored every year. In this way, he hopes that by 2015 the critically threatened forests and jungle areas in Bali would be eliminated. 'So every year there would be 5,000 less hectares that we would try to correct. As long as funding is available, we would continue to struggle on," said Bhuana.

Anak Agung Bhuana also emphasize that the provincial government of Bali is targeting to recover lands owned by the people by providing 1 million seedlings for replanting every year.
