(10/4/2010) The Bali Chapter of the Association of Indonesian Fashion Designers and Entrepreneurs (APPMI) will present a fashion showcase of coming trends created by its members and guest designers on October 17th in Nusa Dua.
APPMI was established in 2004 and now boasts 15 young and talented members whose works are sold in numerous boutiques all over the world, as well as in Bali.
Seats at "Fashion Tendance" are always much sought after with the last event attended by more than 500 and voted as Bali's best fashion event by The Beat Magazine.
This year's show on Sunday, October 17, 2010, is themed "Cita Di Alam" or "Feelings of Nature" and will be held at The Laguna, a Luxury Collection Resort & Spa at Nusa Dua Bali.
The designers featured at this year's fashion gala are:
ANGELIQA WU Featuring a line of titled "Alir Alur" or "Groovy Grooves." Born in Bali, she graduated in 1999 from KvB Institute of Technology, Sydney, Australia. Wu specializes in cocktail wear, evening wear, Kebaya and Wedding Gowns. She has been a member of APPMI since 2004.
ALI CHARISMA Working from the theme "Hilang" or "Lost" as a point of creative departure, Ali shows a world inhabited by aliens. Ali started his fashion design career ten years ago, working primarily in export. Ali has shown his work at Fashion Week venues in Bali, Jakarta, and Hong Kong.
DWI ISKANDAR His line is called "Kukuh" or "Strong" in a collection dedicated to the mature women. Originally from East Java, Dwi studied fashion design with Adrianto Halim in Bali. Dwi has participated in fashion events in Bali, Java, Jakarta, Hong Kong and San Francisco.
ENY MING A line called "Dua Sisi" or "Two Sides" uses a color palette rooted in white and sand grey, the collection unveils a series of edgy and tailored style. Elly was born in Bali in 1979 and graduated from the LaSalle International Design School Singapore. In 2007, she won the Indonesian Young Designer Contest.
MONIKA WEBER- Presents her line called "Negeri Dongeng" or "Fairy Tale" which draws inspiration for stories of forest fairies using chiffon, lace and Indian cotton. She commenced her fashion studies in 1990 in technical high school in Malang, East Java before further her education with Susan Budihardjo in Jakarta. Monika owns Monika Home of Fashion.
MUJI ANANTA A "Wild Jungle" collection is inspired from the atmosphere of the jungle and tree trunks that have been cut down. Muji Ananta is a graduate of the School of Art in Solo and Jogya, having continued his studies at DISKOMVIS ( Design Komunikasi Visual ). He has worked at PT.Pacific Express Garment since January 2010.
OKA DIPUTRA - Oka's line of "Ha Dua O" or "H20" draws its inspiration from the fluid and adaptable character of water. The gentle flow of water becomes the silhouette of his dresses. Fashion is like a sweet revenge for Oka Diputra. The youngest of five siblings, he was subjected to wearing hand-me-downs. Fed up with getting old clothes, he deconstructed the out of date shirts and pants to make outfits that were more to his liking.
PUTU ALIKI has adopted "dying forests" as the theme for a line where grunge meets casual. A Balinese woman as well known as her brand, Aliki was born into an artist's family. Graduated from Harry Darsono Art and Design College in Jakarta on 1997, her creativity grows while holding firm to her Balinese roots.
TJOK ABI has taken "the magic sound of the Kidul ocean" as his theme to portray the mystical magic of the seas south of Yogyakarta in a line of cocktail dresses that blend modern styling with traditional Indonesian accents. Born in Denpasar in 1968, Tjok Abi graduated in economics from Trisakti University before continuing his studies in fashion design at Cavendish College London. He has worked as a designer at PT. World Character Garment. In 1997, He moved to PT. Matahari Putra Prima where he designed the Nevada Girls and Aero Blue brands for teenagers.
CHERRY SCHERZINGER the newest member of < I>APPMI, her collection is called ""Revolusi Revolution" and is inspired by classical cruise and flight uniforms for women. Bali-born and an ex-model, Cherry Scherzinger graduated from the Susan Budihardjo School of Fashion and has been working as a stylist for Elice Seymour for the past 3 years.
DEJONG (Guest Designer) also known as Gregorious or Gege, he started his eponymous men's line in 2007, earning his "Dejong label" a large reputation in Bali. A native of Java, he has adopted Bali as his home since 1995. For Fashion Tendance 2011, he has created a line that is both sexy yet playful. It features a palette of very masculine steel grey and black. Watch out for the sleek looking pants and unusual waistcoats.
ESPEN SALBERG (Guest Designer) a native of Norway, Espen has been resident in Bali, Indonesia since 2007. In Bali he cultivates his interests for fashion design, producing garments for ladies fashion. Espen discovered his creative flair for design during his career in the international dance sport world as a former World Professional Dance Champion, teacher and coach. He owns Salberg Design, an atelier situated in Rome, Italy, where he lived and worked for 17 years. Espen Salberg's signature line is "Firmato Espen Salberg" -a line of ladies' high fashion clothing often called "Stretch Couture."
