French Couple Found Dead in North Bali Villa

Bali Police Continue to Investigate the Mysterious Demise of Oliver and Scapin Marroni.

(12/27/2010) Both the national news agency Antara and Bali Post report the mysterious death of a French couple staying in a small hotel in north Bali. Oliver Marroni (35) and his wife, Scapin (34) were found dead in Villa number 6 of the Villa Lumbung Bali in Munduk, Buleleng on Monday, December 20, 2010.

The couple reportedly checked into the hotel at 6:00 pm on Monday. One hour-and-a-half later the woman's nude body was found next to the fully clothed body of her husband in the bathroom of the villa. Ardiono, an employee of the Villa, discovered the bodies, raising the alarm with the senior management of the villa and local police.

The head of the Buleleng police district, M. Yudi Hartanto, and the head of the Banjar police precinct, Burhanuddin, told the press they were awaiting an autopsy whose results would help determine the actual cause of the couple's deaths. Burhanuddin said: "So far there is no requested from the French Consulate in Denpasar to undertake an autopsy. Thus far, we have only interviewed four employees of the hotel."

Burhanuddin told the press that in the villa where the couple's bodies were also found a range of medications on an interior table and a bottle of liquor on the room's terrace. "There were no indications of violence found on the bodies of the deceased couple. An initial suspicion that the couple may have died due to electrical shock is being looked into. But, after I inspected the shower in the bathroom there was no electrical current present," explained Burhanuddin.

The metal shower head was found under the woman's body, while her husband's body was stretched across her legs.

The investigation continues.
