Bali by the Numbers: Bali Off to a Flying Start with Record Arrivals for January, While Japanese Arrivals Slip to Third Place.

(3/14/2011) Total foreign tourist arrival to Bali for January 2011 totaled 202,660 providing a strong start to the new year and marking an improvement of 19.9% over January arrivals in 2010.

Main Market Performance

· Australia - Showing no sign of slowing down, Australian arrivals for January hit 59,160 an improvement of 33.35% over the same month last year.

· Japan - Continuing to decline, Japanese arrivals in January dropped 13.14% at 16,748. Look for 2011 to be a dismal year for Japanese arrivals to Bali fueled by a poor economy and the negative impact of the March 11, 2011 earthquake. January saw Japan pass a historical benchmark, falling from its former supremacy as the main source of Bali visitors into 3rd place for total arrivals after Australia and the People's Republic of China.

· People's Republic of China - PRC arrivals improved 7.93% in January 2011 at 17,102 visitors and moving into the #2 post for all arrivals to Bali.

· Taiwan - Taiwanese visitors declined -7.34% at 9,717 visitors.

· Malaysia Visitors from Bali's near neighbor to the north, Malaysia, boomed adding 40.74% month-on-month in January with 10,267 visitors.

· South Korea - The South Korean markets remained largely steady with 10.439 visitors, an improvement of 1.95% over 2010.

· United Kingdom - Visitors from Great Britain declined 4.04% month-on-month for January 2011 totaling 6,157.

· France - French visitors improved 16.45% hitting 5,565 for January 2011.

· Russia - Russian arrivals in January are traditionally strong, and this was especially the case for January 2011 when 11,499 visitors from Russia came to Bali – an increase of 26.06% over January 2010.

· Singapore - Arrivals from the island state surged ahead 122.79% in January hitting 6,893.

· The Netherlands - Dutch visitors declined in January by 9.88% totaling 5,607 visitors.

· U.S.A. - After being sluggish for most of 2010, visitors from the U.S.A. increased month-on-month in January by 27.38% with 5.792 Americans passing through Bali's airport.

· Germany - German visitors remain largely stable at 3,790 – an increase of 1.15%.

For January 2011 Bali experience growth from the Asia-Pacific, ASEAN, Europe and the Americas. Asia-Pacific and ASEAN represent a 70.29% market share of all Bali arrivals.
