Bali on the Silver Screen

'Bali is My Life' Documentary Premieres. Coming Soon to a Film Festival Near You.

(3/28/2011) On Wednesday, March 23, 2011, the movie "Bali is My Life" movie premiered at the Bali International Convention Center (BICC) in Nusa Dua at The Westin Resort, Nusa Dua, Bali.

The collaborative film, co-produced by the Bali Hotel Association (BHA), is a documentary film project rooted in respect and care for the island's culture and ecosystem. The stars of the film are the people of Bali and the wonderful vignettes presented depicting the daily lives of the Balinese and the heroic stories of those seeking to sustain and protect the island's future.

Directed by the award-winning filmmaker who produced Whale Dreamers, Kim Kindersly, the Bali picture brings the same artistic values that earned Kim eight international award, including "Best Film" at the Monaco International Film Festival.

Said Kindersly: "I've been coming to Bali for a few years now and every time I leave, it irresistibly draws me back. For me, Bali is a place of self-healing and self-discovery; every time I come back here and the longer I spend here, the deeper that journey of self-discovery and healing becomes."

Another key player in the magnificent production was producer, second-unit director and the principal of Art Vision Bali (AVB), Paulus Herry Arianto. Arianto brought AVB's expertise and proven track record in executing videos and documentaries for the island's tourism industry.

Featured also in the film was Bali's legendary poet-painter-hotelier, John O'Sullivan, who summarized his deep affection for the project, saying: "Bali allows you to access part of your being that other places just don't have the passport stamps for . . .witnessing offerings for the first time starts a process within. The incense, the offerings, the beautiful body movement, it's all about celebrating and honoring that love for the spirits.

The message is clear that Bali is a living treasure that deserves to be cared for and it's a message that BHA hopes will spread far and wide. "We are cooperating with the international airlines that fly to and from Bali to screen the movie," said BHA's Jean-Charles Le Coz. "We're also looking towards travel channels in paid/cable TV to air the movie and so help promote this truly positive picture of Bali."

At a press conference following the premiere, plans were revealed that will see the film entered in a number of major international film festivals.
