Rubbing the Boss the Wrong Way?

English Woman Facing 5 Years in Bali Prison for Working Outside of Office as a Health Spa Therapist.

(4/18/2011) A 62-year-old Englishwoman, Marian Noel Hjelm, is facing the threat of five-years imprisonment for violating immigration rules in Bali.

In reading the charges against the woman, public prosecutor Alit Suastika, said, "the defendant (Hjelm) purposefully performed activities not in line with the permits issued by immigration." The infraction carries a maximum penalty of 5 years in prison and a fine of Rp. 25 million.

Noel Hjelm was apprehended on December 4, 2010, based on a report filed by Leni Lediyasari, the owner of the PT Global Sehat Indonesia outlet located at the Istana Kuta Galeria.

The Englishwoman held a temporary resident permit valid through June 30, 2011, that limited her permission to work as a therapist at the facility operated by PT Global Sehat Indonesia.

According to NusaBali, Hjlem is accused of offering therapy sessions at her place of residence in Seminyak at rates lower than those available from her place of official employment.
