Rooms with A View to the Community

Bali Hotels Association has Wide-Ranging Programs of Corporate Social Responsibility

(6/4/2011) Bali Hotel Association (BHA) represents more than 15,000 hotel rooms from more than one hundred hotels in Bali that employ nearly 30,000 employee.

Conscious of its role as a catalyst for positive social change in the local community, the BHA has pioneered a number of ongoing corporate social responsibility (CSR) projects. Among its current main programs are initiatives to aid orphanages, assistance to the disabled and blood drives.

70% of BHA member hotels have undertaken the "adoption" of a local orphanage in the remote regions of Singaraja, Muntigunung, Karangasem and Bedugul, The "One Hotel One Orphanage" program provides basic food stuffs, linen, and clothing and bedding for the selected orphanages. Moreover, educational facilities including computers, furniture, stationery and books are also supplied under the BHA program. Further cementing the warm bond that has been established with the children of these institutions, member hotels' staff regularly conduct visitations to the orphanages, invite the orphans on hotel visits and staff outings, and provide training opportunities to the older children cared for by the institution.

Attention to the disabled and handicapped is undertaken by the BHA through cooperative programs with local non-governmental organizations (NGO) — including the Volunteer Services Organization (VSO), Yakkum Bali, Yayasan Senang Hati and Yayasan Kemanusiaan Ibu Pertiwi.

BHA provides support by hosting visits, creating training opportunities for the disabled and assistance in recruiting trainees from among the disabled.

Every month, BHA hotel members also take turns hosting blood drives in cooperation with the Indonesian Red Cross

"We are thrilled to be part of such significant charity programs and I would like to thank all those who contributed," said Jean-Charles Le Coz, BHA chairman. "We will endeavor to continue this support as part of our CSR responsibilities to the community."

"BHA has a rich history of corporate social responsibility; a history that has grown and evolved to meet the complexities of today's business and the challenges of a global society," said Le Coz. "Our community relations department continuously seeks new ways to empower Balinese community. Our commitment to social responsibility is as strong today as it was when the association was founded. We are proud of our progress, but there is still much we can do."
