Benoa to Nusa Dua or Bust!

Bali Toll Way Work Reaches 85% - Scheduled to Operate by Late June 2013

(4/19/2013) DenPost reports that work on the Toll Way connecting Benoa – Ngurah Rai Airport – Nusa Dua has reached 85% completion.

This was announced by the President Director of PT Jasa Marga Bali Tol, Akhmad Tito Karim, during a recent visit to Bali.

Tito told the press that the toll way is now in its final finishing stages with the installing of surface areas to be traversed by an estimated 39,000 vehicles every day once the road comes into operation.

He said this stage of construction would progress rapidly as the foundations are in place for the suspended highway over Bali’s southern mangrove. The pavement slabs are constructed off-site and laid in place upon delivery to the project site.

Of the estimated 39,000 vehicles that will travel the new toll road, PT Jasa Marga Bali Tol estimated that 40% will be comprised of motorcycle traffic and 60% of four-wheel vehicles and other transport.

Reports from government sources suggest that Indonesian president Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono is expected to formally open the highway during a mid-June 2013 visit to Bali.

The highway together with massive renovation of Bali’s airport and a new underpass at the Simpang Siur intersection in Ubud are all part of major infrastructure projects undertaken by the government in preparation for the APEC Summit to be held in Bali in late 2013.
