Death Toll of a Sunday Stroll in Bali

West Australian Woman Drowns After Falling into a Flooded Drainage Ditch in Bali

(5/31/2013) A 40-year-old Western Australian woman drowned in a drainage ditch on Jalan Tangkuban Perahu near Bali’s Kerobokan prison in North Kuta, Bali on Sunday, May 26, 2013.

Joanne Louise Randall accidentally slipped into a flooded ditch after disembarking a taxi during a torrential downpour.

Rushing water in the ditch carried the woman away.

She was returning by taxi from an afternoon outing with her husband that included lunch and a massage. When their taxi stalled in traffic in the rain, they elected to walk the remaining distance to their accommodation when the accident occurred at about 3:30 pm.

Unable to find his wife, the man immediately reported the incident to the police who, after a two-hour search conducted by search and rescues teams, found the woman’s lifeless body submerged in water some 100 meters from her point of disappearance.
