New Zealand Surfing Icon Allan Bryne Dies in a Bali Hospital Following Motorcycle Mishap

(8/9/2013)  Six-days after being involved in a motorcycle mishap on Friday, August 2, 2013, 62-year-old New Zealand surfing legend Allan Byrne has died at Siloam Hospital in Bali after being placed on life supports shortly after admission.

 
Initially brought to the hospital with a broken arm, doctors determined that Bryne had suffered a fractured skull. He  lapsed into unconsciousness a short time later and was placed on life-support.
 
The Australian resident, is a four-time New Zealand open surfing champion. In his youth he had won the junior title for surfing four times.
 
Bryne’s wife and son flew to Bali to be at his hospital bedside upon hearing of the accident.
 
A fixture in the international surfing community, Allan Bryne is also know as a surf board craftsman, designing boards used by a number of world champions and is credited with scientifically designing boards that produce more speed with enhance handling.
 
Mr. Bryne was in Bali to participate in the masters division of the Rip Curl Cup.
