SANUR VILLAGE FESTIVAL VIII/2013

Sanurís Contribution to Social, Cultural and Environmental Sustainability

(8/9/2013) Sanur Village Festival VIII (SVF-VII) returns September 24-28, 2013 with activities centered at Maisonette Inna Grand Bali Beach Hotel. As in past years, this year promises all the usual fun and cultural programs as well as a number of new activities including a Koi fish competition, fun runs, and tree plantings and community environmental actions - all done in the Sanur area.

The chairman of the Sanur Development Foundation (Yayasan Pembangunan Sanur -YPS), Ida Bagus Gede Sidharta Putra, reminded that rehabilitating rare trees and mangrove areas date back to the very first Festival held  in 2005. SVF VIII’s theme of ‘Segara Giri’ honoring the sea and shores reflects Sanur’s commitment to the natural environment. ”SVF’s program continually accommodates and respond to various environmental issues happening in and around Bali,” Gusde claimed on Tuesday, July 30, 2013.

According to Gusde, Bali, as a world tourism destination, must focus on environmental sustainability and carry out proper development policies in line with environment conservation. YPS, as the government’s partner in developing tourism in Sanur, aims to maintain balance and harmony by minimizing environmental damage.

Continuing, Gusde stated that SVF continually contributes to sustain Sanur’s social, cultural and environmental balance and harmony while at the same time improving community creativity and participation.

Sanur as a Tourism Destination

Sanur Village activities enjoy the support of the Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy, Mari Elka Pangestu.  Minister Pangestu is scheduled to join the activities forming part of the SVF event, among them beach cleaning, turtle release, coral reef conservation, and sanitation education. “The minister will also participate in Sanur cycling, Yoga Asana and other events on September 25, 2013,” says Gusde.

This continues a tradition from previous festivals when Sanur Community planted rare tree and vegetation used for ceremonial purposes, as well as coconuts and mangrove for rehabilitating mangrove coverage.

Koi fish competition

This is a new program that caters to Koi fans in arrange of competitive activities. Opportunities to trade valuable Koi will be offered, contributing to local economy for decorative fish.

Fun Run Sanur 10K

A 10-kilometer fun run passing through Sanur Village, aims to integrate Sanur’s heritage, sports and tourism traditions in a single event.

Sanur Creative Expo
