Hooked on Ubud

Huffington Post Casts Spotlight on Holidays from an Ubud, Central Bali Base

(8/18/2013) Carolyn O’Donnell, a fee lance travel writer has presented a wide-ranging insightful review of Ubud as a center of a Balinese holiday.

In the Huffington Post article [Ubud's Mastery in Art of Tourism] , O’Donnell challenges her readers to visit the Central Bali cultural center without being seduced by that community’s beauty and spirituality.

She contends Bali is synonymous with art, a fact reflected in the plethora of galleries located in garden settings that are also home to sacred temples surrounded by water pools and elaborate stone carving.

Located the juncture of two sacred rivers, Ubud’s name derives from the ancient Balinese word for medicine. The village of Ubud dates itself, via folklore, to the 8th century when mention is made of a Buddhist priest meditating at the confluence of the Wos River.

Read the Huffington Post article for O'Donnell's specific suggestions on museums and art galleries to include in an Ubud tour.

Visiting galleries and museums can create a hunger, a need well-served by Ubud’s array of world-class restaurants, led by Chris Salan’s renowned Mozaic Restaurant Gastonomique, also reviewed by O’Donnell.

Shopping, a range of accommodation to meet every taste and budget, and museums galore make Ubud a genuine jewel in the crown of Bali tourism.
