Bali is Experiencing Very High Temperatures

(10/25/2013) Reports by Bali Daily (The Jakarta Post) puts attendance by sun and surf worshippers along Bali’s famous Kuta Beach as down by as much as 50%.

Quoting the head of the Kuta Beach Task Force I Gusti Ngurah Tresna described the situation, “Tourists continue to sunbathe, but do so under the trees rather than in open areas. The scorching temperature has been extreme."

Across the island people are tweeting complaints, saying temperatures are making activity and extended period outside unbearable.

The chef of data and information division of Bali’s Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BKMG), I Nyoman Wiryajaya, explained the high temperatures is due to the seasonal positioning of the sun directly above Bali. This is a twice-yearly phenomenon caused by the earth orbiting the sun as sun assumes a new relative position south of the equator, he explained.

“From the equator, the sun is now heading to the south. Bali is located to the south of the equator. This is why we have high temperatures now,” Wiryajaya said.

The BKMG official assured that temperatures were within normal seasonal ranges with relief expected as the rainy season commences across Bali over the coming weeks.
