Bali Prosecutors Making Arrests in Corruption of US$2.44 Million in Parking Fees from Bali Airport

(11/8/2013) An operational manager at Bali’s Ngurah Rai International Airport Michael Maksi has been detained by prosecutors in Bali in connection with the corruption of Rp. 28 billion (US$2.44 million) in parking fees from the Airport.

A spokesman for the Bali Prosecutor’s Office, Ashari Jurniawan, told Beritabali.com that in addition to arresting Maksi, the government has also identified four additional suspects for eventual arrest.

Michael Maksi holds the position of operational manager for PT Penata Sarana Parkir Bali (PT PSB) - the company appointed by the airport's managers, PT Angkasaa Pura I, to operate the airfield's parking concession.

He was arrested, after refusing repeated summons for questioning by Prosecutors, on October 31, 2013, while dining at a Babi Guling Restaurant in Kuta.

“The four people are strongly suspected of being involved in the corruption of parking fees totaling Rp. 28 billion. One was arrested some time ago and another, Maksi, has just been apprehended,” said Ashari on Wednesday, November 6, 2013.

Michael Maksi who was born in Manggarai (Flores) in 1971, is suspected of misusing parking fees collected at the airport between 2009 and 2011 amounting to Rp. 28 billion.
