A Prison Sentence at Full-Throttle for Bali Jetski Instructor
Tanjung Benoa Jetski Operator Sentenced to 7 Years in Prison for Sexual Assault on Chinese Tourist
NusaBali reports that a Jetski instructor working from Tanjung Benoa in South Bali has been sentenced to 7 years in prison for sexually assaulting a Chinese female tourist he had taken on a Jetski ride.
Muhammad Toha (28), working for BMR Dive and Water Sport, sexually assaulted a 20-year-old Chinese woman on the morning of Tuesday, April 23, 2019.
The Chinese woman in the company of her mother was visiting the water sports operator when she purchased a ticket to participate in a Jetski ride with Toha as a driver. The instructor ordered the woman to sit in front of him on the Jetski while he drove the woman on a tour of the waters surrounding Tanjung Benoa.
Well out to sea, Toha encouraged the woman to take the steering wheel of the Jetski while he took the opportunity to grasp his passenger around the waist. He later resumed control of the water sports vehicle and brought the woman to a secluded area behind nearby Serangan Island. Out of sight, Toha reportedly turned off the machine’s engine and sexually forced himself on his passenger.
When the woman, her instructor, and the Jetski returned to base on Tanjung Benoa, the woman and her mother immediate;y complained to the staff of BMR Dive and Water Sport who assisted the two in filing a formal complaint with the local police station.
The sentence handed down to Toha, who reportedly readily confessed his crime before the police and the court, was 2 years more than the 5 years sought by State Prosecutors.
The sentence was handed down by the Court on Thursday, August 8, 2019, with the presiding judge severely condemned Toha for tarnishing the image of Indonesian tourism and for causing physical and emotional trauma to the woman during her Bali holiday.
