Batik: An Icon of Indonesian Heritage
Ayodya Resort Bali Batik Festival October 26-28, 2018
Following the success of the 2017 Batik Festival, the Ayodya Resort Bali will once again play host to the Ayodya Resort Bali Batik Festival October 26-28, 2018.
This year’s Festival will retain the popular formula of exhibiting both traditional and contemporary batik designs, Batik fashion, jewelry, and Indonesian music and food. Large areas of the Resort will be dedicated to promoting the Nation’s Batik Industry by showcasing Indonesia’s iconic traditional Batik cloth. Leading designers and producers will be displaying their exquisite cloth creations fashioned through a wax-resist dyeing method honed to the level of a fine art over centuries of home industry tutelage across the Indonesia archipelago. In 2009, the United Nations Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) elevated Indonesian Batik to the status of a “Masterpiece of Oral and Intangible Heritage of Humanity”.
Among the leading designers scheduled to join this year’s Festival are Tjok Abi, Afif Syakur, Dwi Iskandar, Uluwatu, KEKEA Wastra Gallery, Mila Clothing, Jro Puspa, and Riesna Dewi. Returning as a driving force behind the three-day event are designers from the Komunitas Cinta Berkain Indonesia (KCBI) – an organization working to promote Indonesian textiles both at home and abroad.
A gala “invitation only” grand opening will be held on the evening of Friday, October 26, 2018; a gala dinner and fashion show priced at Rp. 2 million on Saturday, October 27, 2018; and a KCBI Night on the final night of Sunday, October 28, 2018 costing Rp. 350,000.
Batiks demonstrations, finished batik products available for purchase, and jewelry-making exhibits are available for viewing without charge to the public on all three days of the event in the Resort’s public areas.
While the final program is still being formulated, the program will be regularly undated via the Resort’s Batik Festival Website
