Two Fast Ferry Boats Collide at Serangan Island South Denpasar
Two fast ferry boats operating between Bali and Nusa Penida/Nusa Lembongan collided in the waters off Serangan Island in South Denpasar on Saturday, June 8, 2010 at 11:05 am.
As reported by NusaBali, the KM Putri Island 08 collided with the KM Inami 6, sending 6 Indonesian passengers on the Putri Island to the Bali Mandira Hospital with serious injuries.
The collision occurred on the east side of the Serangan Island Pier as the KM Putri Island 08 was attempting to berth at the Pemelisan Pier after arriving from Nusa Penida. When the ship was only 200 meters from the Ponjok Serangan Pier, it loss control and struck the KM Inami 06 as it was weighing anchor. The hull of the KM Putri Island ran into and over the hull of the KM Inami 6.
The KM Inami was carrying no passengers at the time of the collision while the KM Putri Island 8 was loaded with 40 passengers and a crew of 4 - Captained by Kartuni. 6 of the passengers were injured with 4 suffering serious injuries and two only superficially injured.
The injured passengers were all Indonesian nationals.
The Water Police continue to investigate the cause of the accident.
