Relaxing Weekend Jungle River Cruise
Come to Central Kalimantan for a relaxing jungle river journey on the Rungan River. Travel through magical reflections to traditional Dayak village and experience their riverside lifestyle!
Friday
Arrive at Palangkaraya, Central Kalimantan and travel by air conditioned bus to the Rahai'i Pangun. Stop along the way at the Borneo Orangutan Survival Foundation's Rehabilitation Centre, where, in the education centre, guests will learn about their work and see a group of the orphaned babies being rehabilitated to the wild. Later, after a short bus trip, make yourself at home in your comfortable cabin, and later join on the viewing deck for a welcoming drink and begin your journey along the forest lined rivers.
Saturday
At dawn, the energetic can climb nearby Mount Tangkiling. From the summit, watch the forest mist gradually thin out to reveal the sleepy hamlet and the river glistening among the trees. Return to the boat for a fresh brewed coffee and breakfast, continue up the Rungan. Keep a look out for orangutans, macaques, elusive proboscis monkeys, gibbons and langurs, as well as the dramatic birdlife - gliding fish eagles and the curious hornbills. Then continue to a traditional village for a Dayak welcoming ceremony. Be their honored guest as they introduce many of their livelihood activities, from hulling nee, weaving rattan mats and bags, to building canoes and drying fish. Stroll through their village to see traditional fruits and products of the forest,
including the famed durian and rare and expensive perfume vine. The quiet mooring is adjacent to a
blackwater lake. Leave the boat in the evening by canoe, and quietly enter the lakes, using the torchlight to spot nocturnal animals.
Sunday
Wake up to an early morning optional fishing excursion, joining local fisher folk in the nearby blackwater lake. The boat then returns to Tangkiling for transfer to the airport for your return destination.
