Aman Air has declared its intention to commence amphibious seaplane service connecting the Port of Benoa in South Bali with the Port of Pang Pang, at Banyuwangi in East Java. As reported by Beritabali.com, the proposed new route would, if it materializes, represent an innovative new transportation connection between Bali and East Java.
Aman Air plans to operate a Twin Otter Seaplane with a 16-18 passenger capacity on the service slated to commence sometime in the first half of 2026. Aman says it will operate both scheduled flights together with one-day tour packages from Bali to Pang Pang Harbor.
The proposed new flight operation by Aman Air has been discussed with Ipuk Fiestiandan, the Regent of Banyuwangi. Meanwhile, the Administration of the City of Denpasar, Bali, has told the press that it has yet to receive any formal information regarding the proposed new flight service.
The Deputy Mayor of Denpasar, I Kadek Agus Arya Wibawa, told the press that the Denpasar City Government remains focused on coordinating the management of local feeder ports with the Director General of Maritime Affairs of the Ministry of Transportation.
“In accordance with the Ministry of Transportation’s directive, all local feeder ports in Denpasar will be optimized to reduce congestion,” explained Deputy Mayor Arya Wibawa on Wednesday.
Previously, Mayor I Gusti Ngurah Jaya Negara and the Denpasar Transportation Agency also discussed port management in Sanur, Mertasari, and Serangan to support the development of efficient and sustainable maritime connectivity.
The President Director of Aman Air, Michael Nicholas, following a meeting with the Regent of Banyuwangi, Ipuk Fiestiandani, said that Banyuwangi is ready with an ocean aerodrome for seaplane operations, backed by numerous local attractions to support tourism activities. Aman Air is also eager to develop seafood cargo from Bali to Banyuwangi.
The management of Aman Air cites the need to develop a water base at Benoa Harbor as a key requirement for the new air service. The Airline is coordinating the need for a Benoa base with Pelindo, the State-owned Company that manages the Port of Benoa.
The Aman Air Seaplane service is expected to provide a new transportation alternative that will not only speed up inter-island travel but also strengthen Bali’s position as a gateway to maritime tourism in Eastern Indonesia.
