The State News Agency Antara sentenced a Brazilian man, Yuri Besera Dacosta (25), to prison for 18 years and fined Rp. 1 billion for smuggling 3 kilograms of cocaine into Bali.
Ni Made Okti Mandiani, leading a three-judge panel, sentenced DaCosta on Thursday, 12 February 2026, declaring the 25-year-old Brazilian had been proven beyond a reasonable doubt to have smuggled a large quantity of cocaine into Indonesia. Facing a possible maximum sentence of death before a firing, the 18-year sentence was, however, more than the 16 years demanded by State Prosecutors.
Custom officials told the Court that DaCosta had concealed the illicit cocaine in two plastic bags carried as luggage on a flight from Rio De Janeiro – Dubai – Denpasar on Emirates Airlines (EK 248) on 13 July 2025.
