Bali Narcotic Crime Up 23.92% – Personal Concealment & Postal Smuggling Prevail

Detik.com reports that narcotics violations in Bali continue to increase, with 22.92% more cases recorded during January-May 2026 than during the same period the previous year.

The Head of the Narcotics Division (Ditresnarkoba) for the Bali Provincial Police, Police Commissioner Radiant, stated that this increase indicates that illicit drug trafficking in Bali remains widespread, with distribution patterns continuing to evolve.

Speaking on Wednesday, 20 May 2026, Radiant said,  “This increase demonstrates the continued high level of illicit drug trafficking, with various modus operandi continuing to evolve and utilize various distribution channels.”

Drawing on cases uncovered in 2026, the police identified several patterns most commonly used by criminal perpetrators to commit their illicit acts. The dominant methods were postal mail, parcel post, intermediaries or couriers, and ports, terminals, and airports.

According to Radiant, perpetrators continue to develop loopholes used to evade official police surveillance. Therefore, the police are tightening surveillance and strengthening coordination with various parties in their efforts to eradicate narcotics.

In addition to uncovering distribution patterns, the Bali Regional Police’s Narcotics Directorate also recorded the predominant types of narcotics used in 2026 in 2026. These included methamphetamine, ecstasy, cocaine, and marijuana.

Radiant emphasized that his office is not only focused on enforcement but also continues to prioritize preventative measures through public education regarding the dangers posed by drug abuse.

He warned that drug use can have serious consequences, such as permanent brain and physical damage, addiction, and even act as a trigger for criminal activity. Moreover, drug abuse can damage social and family relationships and even lead to death due to overdose.

”We urge the community to stay away from drugs in any form, supervise children and adolescents to avoid the negative impact of drugs, and to assist enforcement by reporting any suspicious drug-related activity to the authorities,” said Radiant.
