Bali to Host G20 Summit in November 2022

The Indonesian Island of Bali will host the 17th international Summit of the Group of Twenty Summit (G20) scheduled for November 2022. The Summit will occur during Indonesia’s one-year presidency of the G20 that commences on 01 December 2021 and will end in the fourth quarter of 2022.

The Bali G20 Summit is expected to attract 6,500 delegates from 20 countries.

Bali’s Deputy-Governor Tjokorda Oka Artha Ardana Sukawati (Cok Ace) told NusaBali.com that the prestigious Summit represents an opportunity to revive Bali tourism following the COVID-19 pandemic. Cok Ace said the G20 would be attended by 38 heads of state and 60 ministers of state. In addition, the G20 Conference is typically accompanied by a large contingent of international print and electronic media.

The G20 is comprised of 19 countries representing leading global economies and the European Union. The Indonesian presidency of the G20, starting in December 2021, represents the first time that the Republic of Indonesia has led the grouping.

It is expected that the Bali summit will see Indonesian use its presidency of the G20 to pursue:

· The promotion of economic resilience and global recovery from the COVID-19 pandemic.

· Promoting Indonesia’s successful record on reformation and the creation of democratic institutions.

· Advancing a global leadership position for Indonesia on various international issues.

· Promoting Indonesia’s culture, tourism, and creative industries.

The Bali G20 Conference will be centered at the island’s world-renowned tourism enclave of Nusa Dua.

Cok Ace urged hoteliers to begin preparing to welcome the important G20 guests to Bali, expressing a concern that some hotels may have been poorly maintained during the pandemic that started in March 2020. To ensure Bali hotels are in prime condition to welcome the G20 delegates, Cok Ace said, “We have communicated to Jakarta the need to provide soft loans to hotel operators affected by COVID-19.”
