Bedulu Villages Track and Catch a Man Littering their Community

I Nengah Gama, a 49-year-old man from Karangasem, was apprehended by village officials in Bedulu, Blahbatuh, after being caught red-handed disposing of waste along a public roadway.

As reported by Beritabali.com, Gama was caught dumping trash in Bedulu village. As a result,  he was fined Rp 1 million under Bedulu Village Regulation No. 3 of 2025 concerning Source-Based Waste Management.

The Village Chief of Bedul, I Putu Ariawan, told the press that Gama’s apprehension was time-consuming and painstaking, requiring several days to gather conclusive evidence. With assistance from police and community members, a coordinated, intensive surveillance effort ultimately identified Nengah Gama as the perpetrator.

The surveillance program noted the license plate number of Gama’s motorcycle, obtained a description of the man’s clothing, and established a pattern of travel. This information was then used to monitor the man.

Nengah Gama was eventually apprehended in the evening while driving toward Gianyar. When confronted with evidence collected by the public and police, the man admitted discarding trash in Bedulu. Ironically, he threw trash into the roadside ditch under a banner that forbids littering.

Investigators determined that the litter Gama tossed consisted of household trash and debris from his small shop. When apprehended, Gama was asked to return and clean up the litter he tossed on the roadside.

He was later summoned to the Office of the Bedulu Village Chief, where he signed a duty-bearing letter apologizing and paid a fine. In the letter, he promised never to discard his trash in unauthorized places again.

Officials have given Gama the right to dispose of trash at the waste disposal facility in Bedulu, provided he separates the organic and non-organic waste beforehand.
