A UK National, Aaron Michel (36), is under formal arrest in Bali, expected to be charged in a knife attack on a North Bali Resort employee on Tuesday, 05 May 2026.
Michel reportedly became enraged after being denied accommodation at the Menjangan Dynasty Resort in Pejarakan Village, Gerokgak, North Bali.
Buleleng Police Chief, Ruzi Gusman, said the Brit arrived at the Resort at approximately 8:00 pm, where he was observed by security officials to be acting incoherently, possibly under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
Quoted by The Jakarta Globe, Officer Ruzi said: “Because his condition appeared abnormal, security officers directed his vehicle to the parking area, and hotel staff approached him to communicate regarding his request to stay.” Because of the man’s demeanor, the Resort rejected his accommodation request.
Michel then allegedly disembarked his vehicle carrying a sling bag from which he produced a long knife that he used to attack a Front Office employee of the Resort. Alarmed and unprepared for the vicious attack, the Resort worker suffered defensive wounds to his hand and face. The facial wound is reported to have been a deep cut near the victim’s eye. Due to the severity of the wound, the hotel worker was eventually transferred to Prof. Ngoerah Hospital in Denpasar for further treatment.
The attack was reportedly recorded on the hotel’s CCTV surveillance system.
Following the attack, Aaron Michel tried to flee the scene. In an effort to prevent the escape, a security guard jumped on the hood of the man’s car. The Birt then crashed his vehicle into a hotel signboard before driving off in the direction of the Gilimanuk ferry crossing to Java.
An “all-points- island-wide” bulletin was issued by the police, which quickly resulted in Michel’s apprehension without further incident in Gilimanuk. Police in Gilimanuk recovered a blood-stained 30-centimeter stainless steel knife believed to have been used in the attack on the Resort’s employee. A subsequent search of the Brits’ lodgings in Gerojgak uncovered additional stainless steel knives.
Police claim that, prior to the incident at the Menjangan Dynasty Resort, Michel had visited another hotel in the area, where he was refused service due to his irrational behavior.
Police have yet to link Aaron Michel’s behavior to the use of alcohol or an illegal substance.
As reported by Beritabali.com, the man has been criminally charged under the Indonesian Criminal Code (KUHP) Section 406 for assault and Section 307 for possession of a lethal weapon, punishable by up to 9 years imprisonment.
