Beritabali.com carries the report of how a middle-aged Indonesian man, Drs. Tonny Nugroho (69) now resides behind prison bars for outraging the modesty of a fellow passenger on a commercial flight from Surabaya to Bali. Nugroho ran afoul of the law when he was caught repeatedly photographing a female passenger’s breasts.
On Tuesday, 03 June 2025, a panel of judges in Denpasar found the aging Lothario guilty of violating The National Pornography Law under Section 14 paragraph 1, subsection “a” of Law Number 12 of 2022.
The panel of judges declared: “The defendant, without authorization, recorded and took sexually charged images or screenshots against the will and without the consent of the person who was the object of the recording or image or screenshot.”
During a trial, witnesses and proof were presented, together with a confession by Tonny Nugroho, demonstrating beyond any reasonable doubt that the defendant had taken 13 separate pictures of the breasts of a female passenger identified only by the initials NC using a Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra Handphone.
The incident took place on board Super Air Jet Flight IU702 traveling from Surabaya to Denpasar.
At the trial, the Public Prosecutor demanded that Nugroho be punished with a three-month jail sentence. Concluding that the man disrupted the safety and enjoyment of a short domestic flight, and also violated the social norms of Indonesian society, judges met the Prosecutor’s demands and handed down a 3-month sentence.
In mitigation, Tonny Nugroho, told the Court he took 13 pictures of the victim’s breasts because he is afflicted with tremor linked to Parkinson’s disease and dementia.
The judges decided not to hand down a more severe punishment due to the defendant’s age and state of ill health.
