The impressive sight of Emirates’ Super Jumbo A380 landing and departing Bali’s Ngurah Rai Airport is now a thing of the past. Since January 2026, an Emirates Boeing 777 has been flying between Dubai and Denpasar.
Quoted by NusaBali.com, the Communication and Legal Division Head of Bali’s Ngurah Rai International Airport, Gede Eka Sandi Asmadi, confirmed the change in aircraft. This change has been effective since 17 January 2026.
Sandi Asmadi was quick to underline that Emirates’ change of aircraft will not fundamentally affect Bali’s airport operations. All capabilities, facilities, and services at the airport will continue to operate at optimal international standards. The aerodrome can still handle the world’s largest passenger aircraft—the Airbus A380.
The two-storey Airbus A380 operated by Emirates is configured with 615 seats in its high-density 2-class version. Meanwhile, the Boeing B777 seats 442 in its 2-class configuration.
Why Emirates has cut passenger capacity on the Dubai-Denpasar route with the B-777 is still a mystery. Sandi Admadi says selecting which aircraft to use remains the airline’s exclusive prerogative. “The reason and period for replacing the A-380 with the B-777 is Emirates’ decision and can only be confirmed by contacting the airline directly,” he added.
Emirates has yet to comment on why the Super-Jumbo A380 has been removed from the Dubai-Denpasar service.
