The public health threat of rabies remains a serious concern for officials in Bali’s Gianyar Regency, where 3,066 bites by rabid animals were confirmed during the period January through May 2025.
As reported by Beritabali.com, of that total, 1,817 human victims received the Anti-Rabies vaccine (VAR) to prevent death. Despite concurrent efforts to vaccinate pet populations and curb the presence of roaming ferile animals, cases of rabies in Gianyar remain worryingly high.
For purposes of comparison, in 2024 Gianyar Regency recorded 7,654 cases of rabid animal bites, with 2,861 people treated with the anti-rabies vaccine.
The Head of the Gianyar Regency Health Service, Ni Nyoman Ariyuni, confirms a sufficient supply of rabies vaccine. ”A ready stock of VAR is on hand and can be accessed at all Gianyar Health Centers (Puskesmas) and the Payangan General Hospital,” explained Ariyuni on Tuesday, 18 June 2025.

Ariyuni continued, stating that as of 18 June 2025, the stock of VAR at the Pharmaceutical Supply of Ginyar totaled 1,407 vials, together with 53 vials of Anti-Rabies Serum (SAR).
The Gianyar Health Service is reminding the public to remain on alert and to always seek medical treatment if they are bitten by an animal that are potentially rabid, such as a dog, cat, or monkey.
