Indonesia Striving to Outlaw Employment Discrimination

Yassierli, Indonesia’s Minister of Labor and Manpower (Menaker), has expressed the need to toughen his earlier instructions on non-discrimination in employment practices through regulations.

Quoted by BaliPost.com, Yassierli stated on Wednesday, 04 June 2025, that the upgrading of his instructions on matters related to discouraging discrimination was outlined in an official memorandum and will require time demanded by the legislative process.

According to the Minister, Indonesia seeks to inculcate an inclusive and equal-opportunity work environment for all its citizens. To do this, he said, laws and regulations outlawing discrimination will first require cooperation across a range of agencies and Government Ministries.

The earlier Memorandum issued by Yassierli (SE Menaker Nomor M/6.HK.04/V/2025) forbids discrimination in employment in Indonesia based on age, physical appearance, skin color, tribe, ethnicity, physical disabilities, and other insidious criteria.

The Memorandum instructed regional governments and private enterprises to ensure their recruitment practices in Indonesia are based on equal opportunity, fairness, and transparency.

In pursuing these goals, the Minister says both employment and business practices in Indonesia would become more competitive.
