Known Australian Sex Offender Found Dead in Bali Hotel Room

The body of Kenneth Leslie Sternes, a 77-year-old Australian man and retired pharmacist, was discovered on Wednesday, 06 May 2026, in a local guest house, Cove Griya Elite Hotel on Jalan Sedap Malam, Gang Biru III/No. 3, in East Denpasar.

Sternes was a convicted sex offender who was jailed in 2011 for 13 months in Queensland after his convictions for the sexual grooming of a 14-year-old girl and eight counts of exposing a child under 16 to indecent material.

Sternes’ body, clad only in his underpants, was found dead at 3:00 pm, lying on the floor of his room after staff forced entry to his room when the Australian tourist failed to check out as previously planned.

Police and doctors were summoned to the hotel room where Stermes was declared dead.

As reported by RadarBali.com, preliminary reports from police found no signs of violence in the room or on the body of the deceased. Police did, however, find indications of a recent medical injection and a catheter worn by the man. Police also secured two mobile phones, a wallet, a passport, an identity card, and medications that included insulin.

The Australian’s body was removed to a local hospital for further examination and disposition.
