Love Ogoh Ogoh Parades? Here’s the List.

Despite reports in some quarters of the government in Bali to discourage Ogoh-Ogoh parades, which always form a part of the Island’s pre-Nyepi festivities, it now appears that most, if not all, banjars across the Island will participate in parades of elaborate statuary floats down local streets in unrestrained merrymaking.

The fun starts after sunset on Sunday, 10 March 2024, and ends late that same evening, with many of the Ogoh-Ogoh abandoned and sometimes burnt on the side of the roads. 

A celebration unlike any other in the world, Ogoh-Ogoh festivities should not be missed by visitors to Bali.

We share a helpful list of recommendations published by of the best places to join the festivities and watch the passing parades:

  1. Patung Catur Muka
Catur Muka Intersection

The Catur Muka Puputan Monument is a four-faced statue in the center of Bal’s capital city, Denpasar. Situated on the northwest corner of Puputan Field, adjacent to the Governor’s official residence and opposite Museum Bali, The Patung Catur Muka is an ideal place to watch the parade, which will travel a circular route: Patung Catur Muka—Jalan Hasanuddin—Jalan M.H. Thamrin—Jalan Gajah Mada—Patung Catur Muka.

Plaza Renon

2.  Plaza Renon

For those who find themselves in the Renon area of Denpasar on Nyepi Eve, the popular Renon Plaza will provide a vantage place for Ogoh-Ogohs traveling the route from The Bypass Ngurah Rai and Jalan Hang Tuah, with statues originating from the surrounding communities.

Jalan Cok Agung Tresna

3. Jalan Cok Agung Tresna

With its wide one-way boulevard and a border road running along the north side of Denpasar’s center, Jalan Jalan Cok Agung Tresna is a popular gathering spot for Ogoh-Ogoh parades. The triangular route follows Jalan Letda Kajeng – Jalan Cok Agung Tresna.

McDonald’s at Sanur

4. Sanur Area 

The popular tourist area of Sanur always serves as a magnet for Ogoh-Ogoh gatherings. The Sanur route passes Banjar Tama, McDonalds Restaurant, and Kentucky Fried Chicken in Sanur.

Ground Zero

5. Ground Zero Kuta 

The Ground Zero Monument, memorializing the location of the 2002 terrorist bombing in Kuta, is at the very heart of busy Kuta and serves as an excellent vantage point to watch the passing Ogoh-Ogoh. The parade passes Ground Zero, Jalan Singosari, and the Kuta Beach Road,

The Ogoh-Ogoh route in Legian typically travels Jalan Legian – Buni Sari – Jalan Pantai Kuta – Jalan Raya Kuta.


7. Nusa Dua – BTDC – ITDC  

People in the ITDC/Nusa Dua Area of Bali or Tanjung Benoa should gather on the road leading to the main entrance to Nusa Dua to view the many floats gathering there.

9. Semarapura -Klungkung Area  

Semarapura is the regional capital of Klungkung in Bali. The many banjars found in the regency will bring their Ogoh-Ogohs to the Kanda Pat Statue in Klungkung on Jalan Puputan No, 7 in Semarapura.

10. Alun-alun Bangli

Alun Alun Bangli

The City of Bangli the eponymous capital of the regency in which it exists – is always home to high-spirited Ogoh-Ogoh gatherings. The parade in Bangli will follow a route along Jalan Lettu Kanten, located north of the City’s alun-alun.
