Despite the currently strained relations between Jakarta and Canberra over electronic eavesdropping revelations, the provincial government of Bali continues to develop cooperative projects with Australia.
Bali governor Made Mangku Pastika explained to Beritabali.com that the cooperation between Bali and Australia is taking place in humanitarian areas, such as disaster relief and educational programs.
The governor, explaining his plans for educational cooperation, said: “My plan is to have a university in Bai become a sister-university with Darwin University. I have sent a statue there. There’s a garden in front of that university. We are taking care of the entrance gate.”
Pastika confirmed that Bali and Australia also have an agreement in place to cooperate in the area of health, such as cooperation between hospitals in Bali with their counterparts in Australia.
Pastika insists that cooperative projects underway between Bali and Australia have received the blessing from Indonesia’s President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono.
