Majell Hind has been appointed as the new Consul-General of Australia in Bali.
Hind is a career officer with the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade and was until recently Counselor (Management) and Consul-General at the Australian Embassy in Kabul. She previously served as Consul-General at the Australian High Commissions in Kuala Lumpur and Port Moresby, and has undertaken a number of short-term missions, including to Jakarta.
Hind holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from the Australian National University.
With over 800,000 Australians arriving in Bali in 2013, a key role of the Consulate-General is to provide consular and passport services to Australian travelers. Official ties with the Province of Bali also encompass a range of official, business, community, health and education links.
Hind arrives in Bali when relations between Indonesia and Australia are at a nadir following the recall of the Indonesian Ambassador to Canberra in response to revelations that the Australians were involved in electronic eavesdropping on the Indonesian President, First Lady and Cabinet.
Hind replaces Brett Farmer in the role of Consul-General.
