The State News Agency Antara reports that Garuda Indonesia Airlines says demand for flights from Australia to Bali is on the rebound despite the continuing volcanic activity from Mount Agung.

The general manager for Victors/Tasmania/South Australia for Garuda Indonesia, Micky Irfandi Sommeng, speaking from Melbourne on Saturday, December 9, 2017, said seat from Melbourne to Bali are booked at 80% through December 2017.
Said Micky: “In other words, the people in Melbourne are not too concerned with the volcanic activity of Mount Agung that has grown in the past few weeks.”
Micky said the stable high “load factors” are an indicator that Australians still consider Bali as a favourite holiday destination.
He continued saying that although there were several cases of cancelled flight booking from Australia to Bali when Bali’s airport closed for 2.5-days, the market has begun to bounce back dramatically.
“The number of cancellation is insignificant. Many Australians still consider Bali their second home. Because of this, the Australians are not overly concerned by developments in Bali,” said Micky.
Garuda considers that Australia remains a potential growth market for their flights to help Indonesia achieve its target of 20 million foreign tourists by 2019.
Meanwhile, Garuda Indonesia is increasing the number of flights from Melbourne to Denpasar fro 5 to 6 times a week, increasing to 8 flights a week in December 2017.
Moreover, in April 2018 the number of Melbourne flights will be increased to 10 times a week.
At the same time, flights between Melbourne and Jakarta are being increased from four to five times a week,
The strong demand from the Australia market for Bali can be seen from the fact that when the additional capacity on the Melbourne to Denpasar route was sold out in two weeks, stated Micky.
