(2/6/2010)

Bali Post says that the national police have arrested a manager from Bank Danamon suspected to have played a role in the theft of customers' money via the ATM system. Police say the manager was apprehended in Bandung on Friday, February 5, 2010. The arrest follows an earlier arrest, also in Bandung, of a manager working for Bank Central Asia (BCA).

Police admit they have been unable to establish a network or connection between the two men. Authorities have also arrested 3 people in Jakarta connection with the ATM fraud in Bali.

The latest count from the police count some 230 bank customers across the country have suffered losses for which some 40 people are now being detained by police.

Bulgarian Sought

The police are also seeking a Bulgarian national believed to be connected to the Bali heist who supposedly fled the country with three Indonesian nationals to evade capture.

List of Affected ATM Machines

Kompas.com quotes the national police spokesman, Inspector General Edward Aritonang, asking all banking customers in Indonesia to exercise caution when performing transactions at ATM machine. Bank customers are advised to be suspicious of anyone observing their transaction from close range.
