NusaBali says this year's holding of the "Denpasar Festival," set to be held December 28-31, 2010, is receiving unwanted attention from local lawmakers who question the quality of last year's organization and management for the public event.
This year's festival has adopted "Buana Citra Kara" as its theme in order to celebrate creativity and performance. The event will include culinary, floral and agriculture, and public sale elements.
Wayan Mariana Wandira, a member of the Denpasar House of Representatives (DPRD-Bali), called on the organizers to undertake careful planning and execution of the event, avoiding the feeling that last years event was transacted more as an obligation than as a promotional opportunity.
Wandira said the DPRD-Bali will not hesitate to call organizers to account for event financed from their budgets but carried out in a lackadaisical manner.
The head of the public relations division of the Denpasar administration, Erwin Suryadarma, said that a number of events will be changed in this year's festival to avoid any impression of monotony in the overall agenda. The location, however, remains the same as last year with the event centered on Jalan Gajah Mada, the Catur Muka monument and Puputan field in downtown Denpasar.
The municipal government of Denpasar has allocated Rp. 120 million (US$13,335) from the 2010 budget for the Denpasar Festival 2010.
