Other festivities include a healthy fun walk for 200 people along Kuta beach that was held on Thursday, April 11, 2013. The beach walk day also included the release of balloons into the atmosphere to mark official commencement of a series of birthday celebrations. The event was officially opened by Pandu Djojoadisoeprapto, the executive assistant manager of the hotel, who was also called upon to serve the first ball in the Discovery Tennis Cup 2013.

The Discovery Kartika Plaza is operated under the Arta Graha Peduli Group dictating that many of the anniversary celebrations must contain a strong corporate social responsibility component. Accordingly, the 23rd birthday celebrations included visits to old folks home where staff invite the residents to dance and sing together accompanied by a traditional orchestra.

The hotel is also cooperating with The John Fawcett Foundation and Yayasan Kemanusiaan Indonesia to provide eye examinations, perscription eye glasses and free cataract operations for needy parties living in the vicinity of the hotel.

In the festivities that covered two days April 15-16, 2013, some 518 local residents registered to obtain free eye examinations, with 12 receiving free sight-restoring cataract operations. The treatments continued for a second day with a total of 1,086 people finally receiving free treatment.

The two days of birthday celebrations closed with a gala celebration party on Saturday, April 27, 2013 with the theme “Be Excellent – Mission is Possible.” Pandu Djojoadisoeprapto explained to the hotel’s team that the theme was meant to help the hotel face increasing competition in Bali, always striving to be “excellent” – outstanding among all its competitors.
