SPECIAL NOTICE: Word has just be received that the "Hope for Life Event" must be moved to a later date. While permits were in hand for May 5th, a late request by PDIP to hold a political rally on that date in the Renon location means that the chairtable event must be moved to a new date, sometime after the May 15th elections.

A new date will be announced shortly.

+++++++++

In Bali Update Edition #868 on April 22, 2013 an article announced the Hope for Life Walk and Cycle Event to be held in downtown Denpasar on Sunday, May 5, 2013 (see note above) to aid the battle against cancer.

Part of a three-decade legacy of community outreach first started by the Four Seasons Resorts in the early 1980s under the banner of Terry Fox Runs, the Hope for Life Event is open to all who want to participate in a 15-kilometer fun bike ride or a 5-kilometer fun walk starting at 7:00 am in Renon.

Cost of participation is Rp 75,000 (US$7.50) per person that covers the entry, a t-shirt, refreshment and a celebratory party.
[Details: Raising Funds for Cancer Care and Treatment in Bali]

Funds raised will be used to enhance cancer awareness in Bali and provide cancer care and treatment to needy members of the community.

Take Up a Challenge to Care

Carol Biggard – also known ca “Komang Carol” was so move by our news of the Hope for Life Event that she immediately contacted Bali Update and donated US$1,000 to honor the memory of a beloved Balinese friend - Dayu Ratih Cahyani (picture shown on Balidisocvery.com), who lost her battle to cancer in July of 2012.

In contact with Komang Carol, she told Bali Update how she had met Dayu Ratih Cahyani over the Internet at the time the Balinese woman worked with a local tour agency. After an airport visit, the two women became fast friends with Carol coming to meet her entire family over time.

The US$1,000 Carol has generously donated to the Hope for Life event which will translate into more than 130 tickets, a portion of which will be taken up by Dayu’s family, her caregivers during her last illness, students and other community members who will march on behalf of Komang Carol and her now departed friend Dayu Ratih Chahyani.
