Monday, 18 August, Declared a National Holiday

President Prabowo Subianto has formally declared Monday, 18 August 2025, as a national holiday, stating that the holiday is needed to allow the public to celebrate the 80th anniversary of Indonesia’s Independence, first declared on 17 August 1945.

The Deputy Minister for the National Secretariat, Juri Ardiantoro, stated on Friday, 08 August 2025, that the creation of an additional national holiday on Monday, 18 August, represents a gift to the public to add to the festive atmosphere surrounding the Nation’s 80th anniversary.

He added that the extra holiday would allow people to participate in local contests and carnivals to celebrate their freedom and independence on a local community level. Juri said he hoped the coming holiday would build optimism, unity, and creativity – all contributing to national welfare and progress. 

Juri said that President Prabowo wished joyous celebrations of freedom would reverberate not only on the national level, but in every region of the Republic. The 

President Prabowo urges every government agency, place of education, academic campuses, state-owned national and regional enterprises, and all elements of the private sector to join in the 80th Independence Day celebrations.
