Oh Death, Here is Your Sting! Bees Kill Two in West Bali

Beritabali.com reports the death of a husband-wife duo in Yehembang Kauh Village in Jembrana Regency, West Bali, as a result of a deadly attack by bees on their farming land at Banjar Kedisan on Tuesday, 20 January 2026.

The Head of the Mendoyo Police Precinct, Wayan Sartika, confirmed the report of the bee attack that killed  Dewa Ketut Suparta (70) and his wife, Dewa Ayu Made Gati (57).

Police said that at 3:00 pm, a hive of angry bees attacked the couple while they rested at a small “bale” on their farmland. At that moment, the woman was moving a nearby stack of dried coconut leaves.

The woman was surprised by a beehive hidden underneath the coconut leaves. When she moved the leaves, the disturbed bees attacked both her and her husband.

While fleeing from the bees, the couple ran in separate directions. Suparta stumbled and fell, hitting his head on the above-ground roots of a tree. The bees continued to sting him until he lost consciousness. A short time later, villagers found Suparta unconscious and dead on the footpath.

Meanwhile, his wife, Ayu Made Gati, escaped to the community health center (Puskesmas I Mendoyo), where she received medical treatment. She was permitted to return home at 6:00 pm. Later in the evening, she suffered seizures and was brought back to the Puskesmas.

Medical personnel at the Health Center pronounced Ayu Made Gati dead at 8:30 pm. A forensic medical examination of the woman’s body found numerous bee sting wounds to her back, head and lips.
