Australian Dee Saban was playing padelball with three companions on Thursday, 12 February 2026, at Amare Padel in Canggu, West Bali. Reports state that Saban was rushing to complete a shot when he collided with a 3-meter-high glass wall that shattered and sent shards of sharp glass in all directions.

The accident was captured on CCTV footage. The recording shows that Saban suffered multiple serious cuts, contusions, and abrasions.

After the video appeared online, Saban and his wife were told of perhaps seven similar earlier incidents at the same location.

“Seven times that we know of. There are other videos that show this. I could have died. There was blood everywhere; it was like a crime scene,” Saban told The Daily Mail.

The injured man was reportedly playing his first match since a Padel Academy Tournament in December. Saban admitted that colliding with one of the glass perimeter walls is a common occurrence during a match.

The wall’s shattering mid-match shocked the man, who initially did not realize the severity and extent of his injuries.

“It was only when I saw the faces of my teammates as they ran towards me that I realized it was serious. The level of injuries on my legs is bad. Some of the cuts are 5cm deep, and I lost a lot of blood. It’s lucky I didn’t hit him in the face, which is common in the game. If that had happened, I don’t think I would be here now,” he told the Daily Mail.

Rushed to the hospital by ambulance, where X-rays revealed pieces of glass deeply embedded in his shoulder and legs, necessitating surgical intervention. Although residents in Bali and Saban, and his wife, flew “home” to Perth for further surgical treatment.

Public comments on social media questioned the absence of safety -shatterproof glass in constructing the Padel Court.

The Amare Padel Club has apparently issued no official statement on their websites or in response to requests for comment from international media.
