Patrick Fiat, Legendary Bali Hotelier, Dies in Singapore at 73

Baliidiscovery.com has sadly learned of the passing of Patrick Fiat, a French hotelier who, throughout a distinguished international career, made a lasting impact on Bali’s tourism industry in the 1990s.

Patrick Fiat died in Singapore on Tuesday, 08 July 2025, after a brief illness. His body was cremated on 11 July following a period of visitation at the Church of St. Teresa in Singapore

Fiat’s career in the hospitality industry began in 1970 when, at the age of 18, he left his native France to work in Iran.

Later, following a long stint in Singapore as the General Manager of Royal Crowne Plaza, he was named GM of The Royal Plaza from December 1, 1999. At the time, the Royal Plaza was the new branding of the Royal Crowne Plaza, effective as of December 1, when management of the hotel reverted to its owning company, Sajahtera Investments (S) Pte Ltd, following the expiry of its contract with Bass Hotels & Resorts.

Before the Royal Crowne Plaza reappointment, Fiat’s track record included 10 years with Inter-Continental Hotels and 15 years with Bass Hotels & Resorts. Other management appointments included serving as Regional Director of Product Development & Marketing of Holiday Hospitality Asia Pacific in Hong Kong (1986-1989) and Director of Operations – Indonesia (1995). Fiat spent the majority of his career in Asia, but had also worked in Europe and the Middle East.

Fiat opened the Holiday Inn Park View (Singapore) in 1985.

During his more than 4 decades as a hotelier. Fiat earned many accolades and honors, including being named “Hotelier of the Year” by the Preferred Hotel Group. While working at the Holiday Inn Phuket, he won the “Best Hotel of the Year” (990 ) and “Torchbearer -Top 20 Hotels 1991” for Holiday Inn Inns worldwide. He was awarded “Quality Excellence Award 1993” and “General Manager of the Year 1993” when he headed Holiday Inn Resort Balihai, Indonesia.

During a three-year assignment in Jakarta at the Crowne Plaza Jakarta, he was awarded the “President’s Award 1998”, “President’s Achievement Award” for Crowne Plaza Hotels Asia Pacific 1997, and “Winning By A Mile” for Best General Manager’s achievement for Holiday Inn hotels Asia Pacific 1996.

This is Fiat’s second posting in Singapore – he was at the Holiday Inn Park View, where he opened the hotel in 1985.

Patrick Fiat had many friends and admirers in Bali. From 1991 -1994, he served as General Manager for Holiday Inn Resort Balihai in Bali. A leader who inspired and motivated his peers to creativity and action, Fiat worked marketing wonders for both his hotel and the destination of Bali. A founder and conceptualizer of the “South Kuta Association,” Fiat led an initiative that repositioned South Kuta hotels to occupy a ranking  “a notch above” Kuta’s large, eclectic collection of accommodation providers. Cooperating with neighboring hotels, property owners, and the Provincial Government of Bali, the South Kuta Association precipitated improvements in South Kuta as a destinate while generating a pronounced boost in the international marketing of the group.

Patrick Fiat also served as the President of SKAL Bali 1993-1994.

Patrick is survived by his wife, Carolyn, and daughter Nadia.
