Bali is now targeting 6 million foreign visitors for the entire year of 2024, one million less than the 7 million target set by national tourism authorities.
Ida Ayu Indah Yustikarini, the head of marketing for the Bali Provincial Tourism Office, justified the lower target by stating that Bali is now prioritizing “quality over mere quantity” by primarily seeking to attract quality international visitors.
As reported by RadarBali.com, the refocus on quality tourism is also predicated on increasing reports of poor behavior by some foreign visitors and the growing problem of traffic congestion.
Ida Ayu Indah Yustikarini commented: “Although ‘Pak’ Sandi (the Tourism Minister) is targeting 7 million foreign tourists for Bali, we are considering carrying capacity and looking not only at the number of tourists but also their quality.”
The Bali Branch of the National Statistics Agency (Badan Statistik Provinsi Bali) recorded that 5.3 million foreign tourists came to Bali in 2023.
Bali tourism officials target 16 million domestic and international tourist arrivals in 2024.
