A 50-year-old Russian expatriate, identified by police only by the initials VG, has committed suicide by hanging herself in the garage of her rented villa on Jalan Muding Indah, North Kuta, Bali, on New Year’s Day, 01 January 2026.
In an unusually organized and well-planned case of self-destruction, VG left detailed written instructions to her household staff before hanging herself in a garage.
In a written statement issued by a police spokesperson from the Badung Police Precinct, Aiptu Ni Nyoman Ayu Inastuti, it was confirmed that the woman’s body, when it was discovered, had been dead for several hours. A carefully prepared table in the villa’s guest room has been meticulously prepared, containing a detailed suicide letter and Rp. 60 million cash in Rp. 100,000 denomination.
The Suicide Note
A handwritten suicide note in English specifically referred to Russian President Vladimir Putin and the Russian invasion of Ukraine as having caused VG to decide to cease gainful employment, resulting in her lack of funds.

The woman’s suicide note stated she no longer had funds to sustain her life in Bali, claiming she had stopped working because her conscience would not allow her to pay taxes to Russian fascists waging war, claiming Russian President Vladimir Putin had robbed her of everything. In the letter, the woman lamented that she had no hope for the future or desire to live.
As reported by Kompas.com, VG left a handwritten note listing specific directives for her staff to follow following her death:
1. Instruction that her pet cat “Kisa” be given food three times each day, instructions on drinking water, and the need for “cat cuddles.” The instructions also listed three specific feeding times for the animal.
2. Granted formal permission to donate her body’s organs, if organ donation is allowed under Indonesian law.
3. To donate, perhaps to an orphanage, a suitcase filled with used clothing.
4. A request to donate and disburse her household and kitchen furnishings in any way her staff saw fit.
5. A request that her human remains, after any organ donation, be cremated in Bali and her ashes scattered into the sea.
6. A closing request that her family be advised of her death.
The table containing her suicide note and final wishes contained a stack of Rp. 100,000 bills totaling Rp. 60 million to cover the cost of cremation. The note written by the Russian woman said she believed the amount was sufficient for the disposal of her human remains. She added that there was no need for any formal funeral ceremony. She has set aside a set of clothes to be used during her cremation, prepared and laid out on her bed,
Her body was discovered at 10:00 am by a female employee who had come to feed the cat. Lights were seen to be “on” in the garage where, on closer inspection, the Russian’s lifeless body was found hanging by a rope. The staff member raised the alarm with neighbors and the police.
Witnesses told police that the woman had become deeply depressed following the invasion of Ukraine by Russia. Subsequently, she was treated at a local hospital and diagnosed with depression. Additionally, the woman was said to be reclusive, seldom leaving her home in the weeks before her death.
Police are withholding the woman’s identity until her family can be formally notified. Meanwhile, her remains are stored in the morgue of Denpasar’s RSUP Prof. Dr. I.G.N.G Ngoerah General Hospital, awaiting final disposition.
