Ubud, Bali, Adopts a Creative Approach to Reducing Gridlock & Parking Control

The Central Bali community of Ubud’s infamous reputation for traffic jams and gridlock may soon be at least partially alleviated by recent police efforts to discourage illegal parking along Jalan Raya Ubud.

As reported by Beritabali.com, on Monday, 27 April 2026, a team of police began affixing hard-to-remove stickers on the windows of cars parked illegally along Ubud’s main high street. The police action to discourage errant car parking involved the Ubud Police, the Gianyar Police Traffic Unit, the Gianyar Regency Transportation Agency, and the Pecalang (Neighborhood Watch) of the Ubud Traditional Village.

The “sticker” campaign was led by the Deputy Chief of Ubud Police, Police Commissioner I Wayan Antariksawan, who is employing a persuasive approach while prioritizing public safety.

During the parking operation, the joint team affixed stickers to car windows, issued warnings, and provided educational materials to the public.

A total of 15 vehicles were issued electronic ticketing (ETLE) penalties, while 25 other violators were given warning stickers.

Ubud Police Chief, Commissioner I Wayan Putra Antara, described the enforcement action as an ongoing effort to address traffic congestion in the Ubud area.

”This enforcement action aims to ensure smooth traffic flow, considering that one of the causes of congestion in Ubud is the use of main roads as parking lots. We are prioritizing persuasive and humane approaches in providing advice to the public,” Antara said.

He added that the success of the enforcement action also depends on continued cooperation between law enforcement agencies and public support.

”We will continue to implement this enforcement action on an ongoing basis, involving relevant agencies and the Pecalang (traditional village leaders). We greatly appreciate the community’s support to ensure order and comfort for all,” he added.
