Victim’s Family Mocks ‘Light’ Sentence Given to Bali Assassin

Kompas.com  reports that a panel of judges at the Denpasar District Court sentenced Australian Darcy Francesco Jenson (27) to 12 years in prison on Monday (March 9, 2026), only to have the sentence described as “a joke” by the victim’s family.

Darcy was found guilty of assisting in the shooting of two Australian citizens, Zivan Radmanovic, who died, and Sanar Ghamin, who was seriously injured. After the verdict, the victim’s family condemned the sentence as too lenient and as failing to satisfy any sense of justice. This is because the verdict, read by presiding judge I Wayan Suarta, was considerably lighter than the 17-year prison sentence demanded by the public prosecutor.

“This is a joke, this court is a joke, Bali is a joke. Another murder recently. You can come here, kill someone, and get away with it,” said Renata Deegan, mother-in-law of victim Zivan Radmanovic, after the trial.

Renata continued, saying she was very disappointed with the verdict for both the defendant Darcy and the two other defendants, Mevlut Coskun (22) and Paea Imiddlemore Tupou (26), who acted as the executors. Mevlut and Paea were each sentenced to 16 years in prison on the same day.

Deegan hopes that State prosecutors will appeal the judge’s decision. “Today is very unfair. I lost my son-in-law, and they got 16 years and 12 years or whatever, how can that be right? This is unfair,” she said with tears in his eyes.

The panel of judges deemed Darcy “guilty” of assisting in the premeditated murder.

In the courtroom, the dead victim’s family hurled curses at Darcy after hearing the verdict. Darcy appeared indifferent to the victim’s family’s anger and was immediately escorted out of the courtroom.

The shooting took place in Munggu Village, Badung Regency, Bali, on Saturday. 14 June 2025. Police arrested the perpetrators Darcy Francesco Jenson (27), Mevlut Coskun (22), and Paea Imiddlemore Tupou (27), at different locations.
